Kirat is a fashion designer in New York – his label KAS New York sells to top stores in the US and Internationally such as Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus. He graduated from NYU and worked as an Investment Banker with JP Morgan and then followed his passion in fashion. He was brought up in NYC.
Ishveen is a sports consultant – her firm Auxus Strategic Solutions helps brands and ideas to cross borders. She has worked in sport for a number of years and was part of the IPL and ICC tournaments in South Africa, India, West India, England, India. She graduated from Oxford University and 1st was a Management Consultant before following her passion of sport. She grew up in Manchester but before marriage lived in London.
Kirat being a designer wanted something romantic, exotic and with beautiful settings. We both love India and have a lot of family there we wanted somewhere accessible and relatively easy to get to for them. We thought about going to Rajasthan and seeing all the different cities, but 1st stop was Udaipur and we never left. The combination of the hills and the lakes and being calmer while still having the heritage, energy and colour of India made Udaipur very special. A natural choice I suppose for us given its the Venice of the East.
We had people flying in from all over the world so we had to think of not spreading it over too many days but not putting too much in 1 day that people are exhausted or bored. There was a lot of debate on how many functions, what timings etc. but in the end we had an evening tikka ceremony on day 1. Dinner and ceremony were at Trident, this was not even included in the card as supposed to just family but with so many people coming 1 day earlier turned into a bigger thing. Day 1 we had a daytime sangeet in Chunda Palace on the lower floor outside terrace and the indoor billiards room – it was lovely as people enjoyed the sun but could relax inside. We had the best of local fun with pottery makers, churi walas, puppeteers, dancers with pots on their heads and more. Food was street food and fun cocktails. Day 1 evening was the Sangeet on the rooftop of Chunda. We did both functions in 1 hotel to make it easier for people who were checking in throughout the day – as we had reserved both Chunda and Trident which were neighbours. We had dhols, a dj. fire blowers, rajasthani dancers and the best which was the family and friend dances as well as wish lanterns which we gave to each guest to release from the terrace!
Day 2 morning we had the wedding in Fateh Garh – doing the ceremony on top of the hills with breathtaking views was amazing. Also the perfect DJ bharat with the slight walk up the hill with our favourite DJ Chico at the top waiting for the boy side and the groom in his silver chariot. Day 2 evening was the wedding reception in Jagmandir. The boat ride to, then the views from and dancing under the skies on an island was amazing. We managed to organise speeches and heve a sit down entrance for the family and bridge/groom – only possible in a place the size of Jagmandir and with some hard work!
Day 3 we had a lovely pool side brunch at Trident. The gardens and food were just perfect for everyone to exchange stories of the night before and contacts to stay in touch with new friends made for life.
